Panama

Some trips feel like an escape. Others feel like a transition. But Panama felt different to me.

It felt like standing right in the middle of something. Like being in a place that connects different worlds, different rhythms, different ways of living — and somehow, different versions of myself too.

Before going, I honestly thought it was going to be a pretty simple trip. A bit of city, some beach, some relaxing, good weather, good moments, and that was it. And yeah, it was all of that.

But underneath it, something else was happening.

A quieter shift.

The kind you don’t really notice while it’s happening, only after you’ve already settled into it.

Panama City looked familiar at first, but it didn’t stay that way

When I first got to Panama City, it felt familiar.

Tall buildings, traffic, modern skyline, people moving fast — at first glance, it looked like a lot of other cities I’ve been to. But it didn’t take long for me to notice that Panama City has this contrast that gives it a very different feeling.

Right next to all that modern energy, there’s history.

And not the kind that feels far away or separated from everyday life. It’s right there, mixed into everything.

That really hit me when I walked through Casco Viejo.

The narrow streets, the colorful buildings, the balconies full of plants, the whole atmosphere of the place — it felt like stepping into another time without actually leaving the city behind.

That’s when it clicked for me that Panama is not just one thing.

It’s layers.

And the more time I spent there, the more I felt that.

The Panama Canal hit me in a way I wasn’t expecting

One of the moments that stayed with me most was visiting the Panama Canal.

Of course, I already knew it was important. Everybody knows what the canal is. But standing there in person, watching those huge ships move slowly from one ocean to another, made it feel completely different.

It wasn’t just impressive.

It felt symbolic.

This place literally connects worlds.

And for some reason, standing there made me think about connection in a bigger way. How places can connect parts of your life. How people can be bridges between different moments. How even a trip can sit between one version of you and the next.

That was probably the first moment on the trip when I really paused.

Not because I had to. Not because I was tired. Just because I wanted to stay there for a second and take in what I was actually feeling.

Playa Blanca changed the pace without asking permission

After the city, I headed toward the coast, to Playa Blanca.

And just like that, everything slowed down.

The city noise disappeared. No more traffic, no more constant movement, no more feeling like everything was pulling your attention in different directions. Out there, it was the sound of waves, the wind, long quiet stretches of beach, warm sand, softer air.

The whole rhythm changed.

And what I liked is that it happened naturally.

I remember waking up without alarms, walking along the beach without any real plan, just letting the day move however it wanted to. There was no pressure to be productive, no pressure to do something every second.

Even the sunsets felt different.

They weren’t just something to look at and move on from. They felt like moments to actually stop for.

And I think that’s what Playa Blanca gave me most — that feeling of slowing down without needing to force it.

The peace there worked on me little by little

What surprised me most about Playa Blanca wasn’t only how beautiful it was.

It was what it started doing to me after a couple of days.

At first, it felt like a break. Just a pause after the city. But then I started noticing small changes. My thoughts felt quieter. My pace had shifted. I wasn’t reaching for my phone as much. I wasn’t thinking so much about what came next.

I was just there.

And honestly, that’s rarer than people think.

A lot of times you go somewhere beautiful, but your mind is still somewhere else. In Playa Blanca, that started fading. I felt more present without even trying too hard to make that happen.

And that ended up mattering a lot.

San Blas felt like stepping outside of everything familiar

If Playa Blanca slowed me down, San Blas took me somewhere even simpler.

Going to the San Blas Islands felt like stepping outside of everything I was used to.

Just islands, water, sky, simplicity.

From the moment I got there, I could feel the difference. Life there runs on a completely different rhythm. It’s not built around urgency. It’s not built around schedules the way most places are. It feels more stripped back, more direct, more connected to what’s actually in front of you.

And that’s what made it special.

San Blas reminded me how little you actually need

Spending time there changed the way I thought about travel for a moment.

Swimming in clear water with no distractions around.
Eating fresh food that felt real and local.
Watching the sky change colors and not feeling the need to turn every second into a picture.

Everything felt reduced to the essentials.

And weirdly enough, that made the experience feel fuller, not emptier.

Sometimes when everything unnecessary gets removed, you actually notice more. You enjoy more. You feel more.

That’s what happened to me there.

San Blas didn’t feel flashy. It didn’t need to. It had that kind of beauty that doesn’t try too hard. It just exists, and that’s enough.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, it clicked

At some point between Panama City, Playa Blanca, and San Blas, something started making sense.

I realized Panama is not just a country that connects oceans.

It connects experiences too.

The fast rhythm of the city.
The calm flow of the beach.
The simplicity of the islands.

Each place felt completely different, but together they made sense in a way I didn’t expect.

It was like moving through different states of mind instead of just different locations.

And that’s probably what made the trip stay with me more than I thought it would.

What made the trip special was how naturally it unfolded

That’s another thing I liked about Panama.

Nothing felt forced.

I didn’t feel like I had to rush around trying to see everything. I didn’t feel like I needed to turn the trip into some perfect checklist. Every part of it gave me something different, and it all happened in a way that felt easy.

The city made me reflect.

The beach made me slow down.

The islands made me simplify.

And instead of choosing one version of the trip, I got to feel all of them.

That balance is hard to find sometimes.

Panama gave me something quieter than change

By the time I left, I realized the trip had given me more than I expected.

Not in some huge dramatic way.

Panama didn’t change me in an obvious, life-altering kind of way. It did something quieter than that.

It helped me reconnect.

With time.
With presence.
With a different rhythm.
With the idea that life doesn’t always have to move at one speed.

And maybe that’s why the trip stayed with me.

Because in the end, it wasn’t really about escaping my routine.

It was about remembering that there are different ways to move through life. Different ways to be present. Different ways to feel balanced.

And Panama, in its own quiet way, reminded me of that.
